Java/Spring on critical systems: multi-datasource, distributed transactions, batch jobs. Python for data and vision when it's needed. What I care about most is code that's still running in 5 years without anyone being scared to touch it. Passing the OWASP audit is the easy part.

Product before tech

At Okeenea, the back-office I maintained fed Evelity: building floor plans, routes, all the info about a place. The app itself is accessible to everyone, with a particular focus on people with disabilities, indoors where a regular GPS is useless. Before writing a line of code, we'd talk it through with the team to figure out how to actually serve the user's need, even if that meant reworking what was originally asked for. That didn't always go down well in planning.

Research habits, craft mindset

I enjoy a slightly gnarly pattern (SLAM, a bridge between two runtimes) about as much as a clean, well-typed REST API. Leftover habit from my research years: you had to hack together things that didn't exist yet, without always knowing if they'd work.
